Obsessing over the 90s

Turns out millennials have a knack for bringing things back and to be honest I absolutely love it. The direction fashion is going is not only nostalgic but refreshing too. No doubt modern fashion is impeccable but there’s something about recurring trends that make a girl want to get on the fashion train real quick – either to fit in, make a statement or make up for when you didn’t quite get on board the first times. 90s fashion is back and it’s back in full force.

Hello choker....No doubt you’ve seen the choker make a comeback in the biggest way – with all kinds of designs top choose from – I’m obsessed with all of them – I simply can’t pick one.

Deep berry lips are also having their moment and I’m not complaining. It’s either you go bold or you go home.

Bring on the jackets in denim and leather for cool girl status and fashion goals. Best worn with dresses of all lengths.

Platform shoes - A few years ago you would have been looked down upon for wearing anything with a platform. But what seemed outdated has made a huge comeback and has every fashionista feeling like a Spice girl – well they looked like they always had so much fun and that’s the attitude you should carry when you don yours.

The New Feminine: Burgundy and Fur

The New Feminine: Burgundy and Fur
I love to experiment with clothes and I’m probably the last person you will see running away from an outfit or piece of clothing that is far from the norm – I’ve been like this from as far as I can remember. When I came across these black leggings with lots of faux fur at the bottom half of it I was more than excited to get them out of the store and give them a try. They are incredibly warm too. The lining inside is just fantastic and does as much as possible to keep the cold out.
I paired the leggings with my favourite pair of Vera Wang boots, a light turquoise knit and a burgundy coat over it. I hope you like this look as much as I did. Hair Milk that’s great for natural hair

Life is full of surprises and after 20something years of living it’s only this year that I bump into a hair milk – Luster’s Pink XVO Xtra Virgin Olive Oil Hair Milk – it actually looks like milk...please don’t be tempted to drink it – I wouldn’t want you in the emergency rooms but what I do encourage is that you put spray it onto your hair. Luster’s hair milk is an anti-breakage leave-in conditioner and is perfect for desert dry hair. I tried it on my sister’s natural unprocessed hair and the moisture burst was phenomenal. It was definitely easier to comb after that....Her natural hair can be a struggle and the hair milk gave us less of a headache when it came to handling and styling it. With xtra moisture and repair, xtra detangling and shine – it contains everything hair needs in a single bottle. When I try it out on my relaxed hair too; you will be the first to know.

Winter’s IT colour

It may be cold outside but this season we are turning up the heat with shades of cognac. Whatever the occasion make sure to add some cognac to your closet. This warm mustard shade is just what you need to brighten up those dull winter days.  Here are some Persuasion picks on how to rock this hue all throughout winter.

Boyish

I think this is turning out to be an obsession – not only am I loving plaid but men’s winter t-shirts too. I saw this one lying around at my grandparent’s house- it was in the garage to be specific and my fashion bells started ringing – again it was love at first sight. I just had to have it and put it on without a thought. Turns out it belongs to my granddad – and now it’s mine. Hope you like how I paired it...

Let me know what you think.....

Amazing relaxer to try now

I have to admit, I often freak out when I have to process my hair because I usually take long breaks before I do. Months on months to be honest. This might sound dramatic but it’s quite an intense and emotional experience for me. Plus I have a secret fear of getting burnt which adds to my uneasiness. The results however are almost always worth it.

My hair tends to break if I process my hair often so I’ve resorted 4 to 5 month breaks in between relaxers to control the hair breakage situation. Personally it ensures my hair stays healthy and strong. At some point I was convinced to go natural, it kind of looks it after months on months without processing but I’m too lazy to comb through it or come up with my own creative styles to keep it looking good.

Relaxed hair is just easier for me; no offence to the natural sistas out there ya’ll rock too… Before I bore you; let me go on to the real issue the relaxer you should try now. I recently relaxed my hair with Luster’s Pink XVO Olive Oil Relaxer and it left an impression – it didn’t burn whoop whoop. I hate relaxer burns – matter of fact no one does – well no one sane that is. It took less waiting time than I expected considering I had thick hair growth – the only complaint I had was that my stylist struggled with the gloves – they were too big – maybe an adjustment on that would be great – or 3 different size gloves made available from small to large maybe - if I’m not asking too much. Lol.

All in all – not only did the relaxer leave my hair feeling smooth and nourished. My hair wasn’t left feeling flat – something I’ve experienced with other relaxers – it maintained its volume and body which I really loved and appreciated.

Hair care is always a personal experience. That’s why you should get it and let me know how it works out for you.

The only hair lotion you need

If you follow my social media you would know that I’ve been talking about Luster’s hair products quite a lot. I only talk about products I’ve used and experienced and Luster’s is one of them. My first try of Luster’s Pink XVO Xtra Virgin Olive Oil Hair Lotion was soon after I relaxed my hair. My hair stylist massaged the product into my hair while it was still damp and then went on to blow dry my hair. Adding a little shine to it without weighing down the hair with too much product. Some products tend to do that and I’ve been using it as after care for my relaxed hair as I’m still deciding what to do to my hair next.  This simple product is just what I need to keep my hair in perfect condition – I’d like to believe it will do the same for you. With natural antioxidants and conditioners my hair has been easy to comb – itch free and is nourished without being greasy.

If you happen to try it – let me know…..

Wedding ideas for winter

I’ve come across a number of people who are having winter weddings this year and having experienced how cold it’s been these past few days all I could think of these people must really love each other because it’s freezing out and wedding dresses aren’t exactly warm. However, this prompted me to look into winter bridal fashion and what you can do to still look fabulous on your wedding day without having to catch a cold. Here are a few of my picks to get you inspired to try it this season on your big day or if you’re planning one in future.

Where to eat: Mojo's

Mojo’s
10 East Road
Harare
04 705 993
$20 for lunch
$25 for dinner

My first feel of a Rodizio meal was actually a few years back with my foodie partner and best friend in South Africa. It was truly a night to remember good food, lots of meat (yay) and good music. I remember there were Samba dancers that night too. It was such a long time ago-please don’t ask my age.

This wasn’t my first food experience at Mojo’s in Harare however, it’s always good to revisit good restaurants especially when they offer good food and service.

Getting this Rodizio experience in Zimbabwe is more than just a meal at a table; it puts a smile on my face cause of the memories attached to it. At Mojo’s their main thrust that you eat as much as you want – therefore I highly recommend you come with an empty stomach to have room for the different cuts of meat you’ll have.

Mojo’s is a Churrascaria - a Brazilian steakhouse. Churrasco is a modern celebration of food where Gauchos serve by parading succulent cuts of meat and slicing them fresh & hot in an authentic traditional service style called Rodizio.

How it works is that you have cards placed on your table and the green side of the card is an indication that you’re ready to eat and want that meat cuts to keep coming – when you can’t stomach it anymore you can gladly turnover the card to reveal the red side which is an indication for no more..
I started off with a starter platter which had a nice hot shot glass of spicy soup, spicy meat balls, potato croquettes, french bread, and a few other finger foods.

For the main - the sides included creamy potatoes, a mixed garden salad and spicy rice. The rice wasn’t my favourite –it was somewhat bland – the potatoes however, were my fave and I helped myself by continuously by adding more to my plate. I loved how creamy and perfectly seasoned they were. You can’t go wrong with a mixed garden salad especially if it’s fresh accompanied by Mojo’s dressing which complemented the salad really well. I’ve never been one to turn away greens so I’m one happy person when I see them...plus they are good for you.

The first helping of the succulent meat was a cut of pork fillet, followed by a chicken sausage, beef sausage, chicken thigh, chicken drumsticks, game sausage, pork belly, beef and many others. I will touch on my fave which happened to be the beef sausage so succulent, so juicy and spiced to perfection, followed by the pork fillet –which was nice and tender, I did however like the chicken although it was too salty..My least favourite was the game sausage – it tasted way to foreign for my liking.

Food at Mojo’s is really what you make it. With all the various cuts of meat on offer there has to be something you like or love at least.  Go if you have a healthy appetite and just want to experience something new – I dare you to try it.

I would have loved dessert but I didn’t have anywhere to put it. I was beyond stuffed and that’s how you should leave a restaurant –full!

Eating away

Mojo’s always ask are you ready? I wasn’t quite ready for feeling that stuffed but I did leave happy and fuller than when I came – now that’s a good sign right?
