Men’s guide to looking fresh on date night

Jidenna
As you all know I’ve got so much love for the ladies – but the boys have been feeling left out so I decided to add some diversity to the blog and feature a number of style pieces for men. A word of advice to the wise – boys don’t just read this - Implement.

The month of love is upon us and you might be wondering what to wear and how to look good to get yourself a date or you just want to impress that one special someone in your life – note, this also works if you bring roses too....

Other than a man in uniform, there’s nothing that can beat a man in a well- fitted tailored suit (dark colours only). Unless you’re going to jump of a bridge – cue bungee jumping as a date idea; track pants and shorts are a definite no no.

To give off that real smooth suave vibe to add to your look; invest in an unconventional skinny tie or a bow tie. Bow ties give off that I’m confident enough to stand out and I can pull off anything look. Move away from the classic black bow tie and try something different like mini dotted or bright coloured bow ties to give you a twist and quirk like no other. Ladies love it when you pay attention to not only them but the little details of your look

With Jidenna on the scene a fresh cut and a waistcoat is just what you need. I know what you’re thinking? Aren’t I taking it a bit far but no –it’s all about the risks – there’s nothing wrong with being perfectly put together besides even if you don’t get to date number two (although I’m rooting for you to win) no one can say you aren’t one fine looking brother – don’t shoot me if you don’t get the girl – I’m no love doctor but I can ensure that you look good every step of the way.

Granted this style rundown isn’t for a movie date or something light hearted – we are going all out, babbyy!!!! -this is for the guy who wants to go all the way (a nice fancy restaurant, a fancy crowd, the works) and going all the way means creating a lasting impression so we’re not going easy we’re going hard.

Bring out the luxury fragrance pour homme. Not only do ladies want to know you can look good but you got to smell good too. I just have to stress - drenching yourself in a scent is not the way to go – unless you’re a psychopath and you’re planning on suffocating you’re date – don’t do it – I don’t have the money to bail you out or get you a sick lawyer like Annalise Keating from How to Get Away with Murder. Let’s keep it simple - a dash of spritzing will do the job.

Don’t leave without a solid timepiece that screams I am a made man and I take my time seriously. This will definitely elevate your style points and like I said earlier, ladies love the finer details.

Chapped lips are a no no – put some balm on that lip (hides – can’t believe I wrote that but you must know)

Just for laughs – you are going to need a leather wallet for when you bring out that credit card and if you are that papered up – a money clip – no excuses gentlemen – you got to pay – does this make us less of a feminist (shakes head) - No. #wink

Oxfords will always be your go–to shoe for an effortless sophisticated look. Make sure they are polished and looking neat and make your way out the door.

The key is to keep it classic but with a twist.

Lastly rock up to her place with confidence and allow things to flow.

Persuasion Inc ZW drenched in Moi Amara

I am a big believer of wearing the clothes and not letting the clothes wear you. As much as loving yourself on the inside is important, loving yourself on the outside is too – so yes image is a big deal. How you portray yourself on the outside has a big impact on how you are received or perceived by people. So dress well – it’s as simple as that.

The outside world often looks at bloggers as individuals obsessed with vanity (however confidence is innate and should not be mistaken for arrogance), whose only job is to look good and throw shade – hello fashion police but blogging has a number of dimensions that you may not be aware of – cue the industry secrets, melt downs and cover ups but that’s a story for another day.

We put our lives out there for all to see, we have you judge how we look and what we do- even if you don’t say it – it takes a lot of strength, confidence and the ability to laugh at oneself to do that. I’m taking this moment to applaud every blogger whose chosen this path and the designers, creative’s and corporates who support what we do.

Despite the nitty gritty’s I had the pleasure of being dressed by Moi Amara for the FBA_ZIM shoot. When you’re dressed in designer you have no time to worry about everyone else and what they think. Moi Amara creations have a way of attracting the right kind of attention. Dressed in all white – even I was impressed by how good I looked. It was edgy, stylish and fun.

Together with 3 other bloggers we served hotness and fun like no other. Together it was a bunch of girls looking dressed to kill and about to have a lot of fun. We instantly became the “It girls” you want to hang out with and were guaranteed you would have a good time. When a designer creates a look that already speaks for itself all you have to do is have fun with it.

Jenika Shah is the designer behind Moi Amara and her aesthetic transcends to the wearer not just wearing the garment but feeling it too. You’re not even halfway to the party but you can already feel the music. Now that’s what I call designer...

Pushing the boundaries with FBA_ZIM

We write not because we have to but because we want to – Alexandra Mebe

From a very young age I knew I wanted to pursue something I loved and couldn't wait to get out of bed for. There’s something about doing what you love that makes it feel like you aren't working at all but more of living the dream. Granted there are some flaws to the business like every other job but personally it’s a little less taxing for me and the good outweighs the bad.

Shooting with Fashion Bloggers Association Zimbabwe FBAZIM can be surreal at times; working with creative’s who want to push creative boundaries and bring Zimbabwean fashion alive is everything. Some people don’t yet understand why we do what we do but the more they see it the more they believe it. This year is all about pushing harder than ever before and not conforming to the stereotypes and standards of the industry but setting them ourselves.

There is great pleasure in collaboration. Fashion icon Pharrell said, “Collaborate with people you can learn from.” This rings true to me because that’s FBAZIM is all about. To be around bloggers like Tendai Kamusikiri of Signature Toscie, Robin Chaibva of Concrete Jungle Fashion ZW and Sharron Mungazi of Deffinatelyshaz is far from inspiring. The other pool of bloggers who are part of FBAZIM also have something unique that they bring to the table.

This has helped me appreciate what each blogger can offer considering our different style preferences. Being able to share ideas and grow together is what coming together is all about. In a world where it’s each man for himself it’s great to have a platform were support drives us to move each other forward. No man is an island and together we do so much more. Join us once again on this journey

Chic Up with Chic Street ZW

Coco Chanel was right when she said, “If you’re sad add more lipstick and attack.” There’s something about getting your makeup done professionally that makes you feel like you can conquer the world. Without it you can still conquer, however, after a few slicks of Black Opal Heatwave lipstick and Midnight Azure eye shadow the levels have gone and changed the game.

Glammed Up
Personally getting my makeup done has nothing to do with the misconstrued notion that one is trying to cover up their flaws, it’s all about adding that edge to complement any look I decide to rock – it’s about making an effort and accentuating my already long lashes and my eyes which I love, even my already big bottom lip – I do it for me and no one else and I love it.

I had the pleasure of being a part of a concept shoot with the director of Fashion Bloggers Association Zimbabwe (@FBA_ZIM) Tendai Kamusikiri of Signature Toscie and key members Robin Chaibva of Concrete Jungle Fashion ZW and Sharron Mungazi of Deffinatlyshaz. Together fuelled by our love for fashion and beauty we joined forces with Chic Street ZW studios in Newlands and got flawless and breathtaking chic-ups. A chic up is suitable for day events, interviews and outdoor photo shoots. The makeup products used were by Black Opal which certainly didn’t disappoint.

Because I’m a bit of a drama queen (laughs) I went for a glamorous and captivating look. I’m all about drama in the eyes and oh so kissable lips. Head makeup artist Luscha hooked me up with my look and I was impressed by her professionalism and flawless technique. The team wasn’t just about getting the job done; they took their time, asked relevant questions about our skincare and were willing to help assist us with mapping a way forward. The mere fact that they were open to answering our questions made it even more comfortable to be seated up in their makeup chairs.

It’s no lie that all of us walked out of the studio with a spring in our step- every girl should at least cross the lines sometimes, spoil themselves, get their makeup done and walk like you own all the buildings in town. Have your moment and feel it!!! #NoApologies

Whether you’re a downtown or an uptown girl Chic Street Studios has something for you. Let me not forget to say that they also stock outfits for all shapes and sizes for any occasion. If you’re looking to get all glammed and dolled up, don’t just take my word for it – head to the store and find out for yourself.
