Mom’s the Word

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.” — Unknown

A mother is a child’s whole world. Without mothers most of us wouldn’t be where we are right now. Through God’s grace our mothers have brought us through the ups and the downs. For that we should all be grateful.

I spent the most part of the beginning of the year styling my mum’s looks just as a way of helping her step out in style and confident. Happy Mother’s day to all the mothers out there and my amazing and beautiful mum.

Hello May

Can’t believe how fast the months are going by. With still so much to do it can be quite a depressing month, considering the low temperatures make it hard to put fashionable looks together when all you want to do is keep yourself warm. However, the cooler season isn’t going to stop me from making the best out of this season. Personally the stretching in terms of making what’s in my closet work this season is slightly daunting yet exciting and I can’t wait to see what I come up with. May is also the month we celebrate our mothers and that’s enough to put a smile on our faces. Happy Mother’s day moms. As is tradition each new month I put up what I love, loathe and a few things I’ve tried out...

Gender free perfumes
On my radar this month is gender free perfumes. Number 1 on my list is Calvin Klein’s CK2 fragrance. The minimalist design of the bottle and the fresh scent make it a fragrance to have plus you can share it with your partner and that’s a plus for me. The signature scent embodies the thrill of life and celebrates the diversity of connections between two people. Now that’s worth the investment.

New on the market
Coco Royal Coconut Juice with Pulp. I came across this drink in the Pick n Pay. Looking at it, I found it quite weird and was concerned why the coconut pulp didn’t sink straight to the bottom. I however, am all for trying new things- plus when people drink coconut juice on TV it looks so cool. The minute I opened it I was hit by the strong smell of the coconut which was a put off- I only managed to get a few sips in and that was it for me. No more – never – I hated it....

Best anti-itch and anti-flake hair product
There comes a time when enough is enough and you can’t pat your head any further. I have a sewn in weave at the moment and the itch on my scalp was turning out to be a nightmare. I purchased the Dark and Lovely Braids’nWeaves Scalp Soother + Anti-itch product. The scalp soother has soothing jojoba oil and refreshing peppermint oil for fresh control. From the moment I applied it – I promise you it’s been two weeks and I have not felt a single itch ever since. I’m still blown away by the fact that one application can do that. The Dark and Lovely Braids’ n Weaves waterless scalp wash +anti flakes is a no-rinse cleanser that removes dirt and refreshes your scalp between regular shampoos. I recommend this as well. Together they are a winning combination.

Best Buy
I’ve been on a mission to collect as many vans as possible. These shoes are extremely comfortable uber stylish and light on the pocket. These are by far my favourite buys so far. I got them in Powersales for just $11. I love a good bargain.

Shoes News

I am currently obsessed with these perspex heel ankle boots. They remind me of Barbie for some reason. I grew up obsessed with Barbie dolls and these boots fit the bill for me. Not only are they edgy, they are fearlessly trendy and can be worn with just about anything and everything this season. Please don’t wear them with a maxi or long skirt though – that’s a no no.

Facial Products I live by

I love raving about products, especially products I can trust. I’ve had my fair share of bad skin breakouts and I tried almost every brand you can think of. In that journey I’ve discovered what works for me and what doesn’t. A number of brands have been highly overrated if you ask me or perhaps they just weren’t for me. After countless attempts to get my skin under control I invested in an affordable range of facial products. Clere Radiance hit the mark for me and for good reason, although my skin does break out here and there, it’s not as bad as before and this oil control formulation does just what it says it will do..

Without it my face gets extremely oily but with it – I can confidently take on the day...

I live by the basics –following 3 essential steps – cleanse, tone and moisturise. I do however throw in a scrub and a mask as well on other days.

I originally began by using the Clere facial soap but it didn’t give me the results I was really looking for. I did however; stay loyal to it because it wasn’t a bad product it did a fairly good job but I wanted a bit more out of it, I did grow quite attached to it over the years. Driven by the fear also that if I tried something else I might break out badly again. I was however pleasantly surprised and relieved when they brought out a new wash under the same range -The Oil Control Face Wash Gel helps remove oil and impurities that cause spots and blemishes. I absolutely love it – it gently cleanses the skin leaving it oil free – the results on me were evident in one week. It does give a radiance to skin that I love. Most times my skin is actually spot free- which I couldn’t really get with other brands. Thumbs up to the Clere team – I hope this doesn’t sound like an advertorial. LOL...

The Clere Radiance Oil control toner doubles as a cleanser and or toner. I love the way it leaves my skin feeling super clean and refreshed. I started using toners a few years back when a makeup artist recommended I invest in one – to help combat my oily skin and to keep my skin clean so as to minimise breakouts. From then on I haven’t looked back. I did however go through a number of brands until I settled on this one – which I’m very pleased with as it gets the job done.

Clere Radiance Even Tone Complexion Cream Normal to Oily - this 3-in-1 formulation is enriched with Super Fruit Serum, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin E for smooth and radiant skin. It also contains microsponges that absorb oil for a matte look which is what I look for in a product considering I generally have oily skin. It’s important to know what your skin type is so as to meet the needs of your skin. Skin types usually range from dry, normal, combination to oily skin. These categories will drive what can work best for you – I’m glad I found mine...Now this sounds like an advertorial!
